Making

Chartwell supports artists as they make and think. Making is an active and connected process, involving the interaction of intention, intuition and intellect with the mediums of the world. Chartwell is making too - making a difference through philanthropy and enabling access to creative activities and research.

TXT: The written word in New Zealand art

TXT explored the written word as a medium in art practice. Fifty artworks by significant New Zealand artists were brought together, with words appearing from multiple sources including advertising, song lyrics, books, poetry and signposts. By bringing together language ranging from weird and wonderful to serious and significant, TXT highlighted the importance of language to not only our everyday lives but also our national identity and legacy as New Zealanders.
