Creative visual thinking is fundamental to us all as human beings as we strive to understand our sense of self and the world. Chartwell seeks to deepen understanding about the importance of art and creative thinking for our future and our wellbeing.

Making

Chartwell supports artists as they make and think. Making is an active and connected process, involving the interaction of intention, intuition and intellect with the mediums of the world. Chartwell is making too - making a difference through philanthropy and enabling access to creative activities and research.

Stephen Bambury

Stephen Bambury (born 1951) is Christchurch-born, Auckland-based abstract painter.

After graduating from the Elam School of Fine Art at the University of Auckland, Bambury received two Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Grants and a residency at Victoria College, in Melbourne, Australia. Bambury has travelled and exhibited widely across New Zealand, Australia, and Europe, including a 2012 solo exhibition 'The Solo Project', in Basel, Switzerland, and Olschewski & Behm, Frankfurt, Germany. His work is held private collections in New Zealand, Australia, North America, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany and France, and many public collections across New Zealand, Australia, and Europe.
