Selina Foote
Selina Foote (b. Auckland , Aotearoa New Zealand) graduated with a Master of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland in 2011. Drawing inspiration from the works of nineteenth century women Impressionist painters such as Berthe Morisot and Mary Cassett, Foote distils, refines, and reduces areas of colour, light and line building on the structural remnants of her source images, masterfully teasing and controlling line and colour to produce works that are radically divergent from their starting point. Foote has been the subject of several solo shows in both New Zealand and Australia, as well as being included in significant curated group shows at City Gallery, Wellington and Window Project Space, University of Auckland. Her paintings are held in the collections of the Chartwell Trust and Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
