Kate Newby

Kate Newby was born in Aotearoa, New Zealand and currently lives and works in Floresville, Texas. Newby is a multi-media artist interested in light, space, texture, lived experience, and the handmade. Her work is often site specific, made in response to the landscape and history of the location. She studied at Elam School of Fine Arts, graduating with a BFA in 2001 and returning there to undertake a Doctor of Fine Arts, which she completed in 2015.

She has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, with solo exhibitions across the globe, including Auckland, Austin, Brussels, Lisbon, Mexico City, Paris, San Antonio, Sydney, Toronto, Vienna, and Wellington. She has been an artist in residence in New Zealand, Australia, North America, Germany, Canada, and Newfoundland.
