Shore Leave
A British sailor on leave, trades one nautical setting for another – one of England’s ubiquitous, often tacky seaside resorts.
The sailor stretches out beneath the pier taking a break from land bound pleasures – his mind maybe getting in the way.
Candy rock, representing the pilings of the pier, is perhaps the greatest symbol of the English seaside, save the sea itself.
The fabric frame is from the back flap of a Royal Naval uniform.
Edward Mackenzie, 2010
