Derrick Cherrie is a New Zealand born, Australian based artist. Cherrie's practice focuses on sculpture and installation, often utilising the forms of everyday objects and household furniture in an attempt to defamiliarise the familiar. He is currently the Director of the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Queensland, Australia, and was previously the Head of the Elam School of Art, University of Auckland.
Cherrie’s works have been exhibited throughout New Zealand and internationally, including shows in Korea, Singapore, Sao Paolo, Shanghai, and Sydney. He is represented in numerous public and private collections.
