Bill Brown

Born in Cowra, New South Wales, in 1945, Bill Brown graduated from the National Art School in 1967. He went on to teach drawing and painting at the School from 1970 to 2009, shaping the next generation of artists.

Working between abstraction and figuration, his paintings and drawings are held in major public collections, including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, National Gallery of Australia and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. 

His work was shown in significant group exhibitions including the 4th Biennale of Sydney and Australian Perspecta ’85. In 2014, a 50-year retrospective of his work, titled Wanderlust, was mounted by The S. H. Ervin Gallery.
