Chartwell 50
The first acquisition into the Chartwell Collection was made in March 1974. Celebrate our 50th anniversary with us from March 2024 - March 2025

The first work acquired for the Chartwell Collection: Bill Sutton's Threshold VIII (1973), Chartwell Collection, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, 1974
In 2024/2025 we have been celebrating 50 years of the Chartwell Trust's involvement and support of the visual arts in Aotearoa New Zealand. Kicking off the celebrations with Decades Charted: A window into the Chartwell Collection, opening at the Waikato Museum on 23 February 2024, there have been a number of anniversary exhibitions around New Zealand in the past year, with over 140,000 visitors enjoying the works in the collection.
With the theme of the Anniversary being ‘Focus on the artists’, it has been a rewarding year as audiences have been introduced to the depth of collection holdings.
