Chartwell 50

The first acquisition into the Chartwell Collection was made in March 1974. Celebrate our 50th anniversary with us from March 2024 - March 2025

The first work acquired for the Chartwell Collection: Bill Sutton's Threshold VIII (1973), Chartwell Collection, Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, 1974

This year we are marking fifty years of the Chartwell Trust’s involvement with and support of the visual arts in Aotearoa New Zealand. We have a number of projects planned for 2024-2025.

The first Chartwell Collection acquisitions were made in March 1974. From the very beginning, all acquisitions went immediately into public gallery care. Chartwell believes in the public gallery as a bridge between artists and the public audience who all ultimately want to understand their creative potential more deeply.
