Chartwell Notes

"Gasgoine's art is derived from her environment. Her weathered materials are discovered in the landscape of Canberra, Australia, and the grid based works she made with them offers analogies for the sense of being in its wide-open spaces. At the same time, her materials are mostly drawn from culture rather than nature, showing the ways in which our experience of the landscape is mediated. Road signs, for example, guide us to the sights and warn us of dangers on the way."  Chartwell Collection exhibition wall notes for Home and Away, 1999.
