Chartwell Notes

Assistant Curator, Julia Waite, Auckland Art Gallery, was in contact with Archivist and Project Coordinator Rachel Selekman from The Dan Flavin Estate. She reports that according to Rachel, the works have been known as Untitled (Paper Discs), however they are most commonly titled Guggenheim Tondo. “The prints were made by Catherine Mosley and you can make out a small makers mark ‘CM’ impressed into the side of one of the prints. Rachel Selekman also mentioned that back in 1999, Meg Malloy, who worked for Edition Schellman at the time (and is now as Sikkema Jenkins), had started doing research for a Flavin print catalogue raisonne. I was also in touch with Director of Library and Archives Francine Snyder at Guggenheim Museum who informed me that the mezzotints were created as part of the Guggenheim’s 1992 re-opening celebration and sold as an exclusive limited edition.”
