  • Description

John Nixon’s work is an ongoing sequence of experiments within a tightly defined visual language. Nixon’s rigorous approach builds on the revolutionary work of early 20th-century abstractionists such as Kasimir Malevich. However, where Malevich had spiritual aspirations, Nixon is stubbornly material.
Making pragmatic use of trade materials like commercial paint and MDF board, his art exists firmly in this world. As Nixon says, ‘[My artworks] are objects, not art as illusion but art as matter.’
